District Recognitions
Board Room Art Students
Marietta City Schools would like to congratulate the five students whose art is displayed in the MCS Board Room: Lydia Rozen, Kindergarten student at West Side Elementary; Sheila Vicente, fifth-grade student at Dunleith Elementary; Ellena Chastain, sixth-grade student at Marietta Sixth Grade Academy; Emma Bryant, seventh-grade student at Marietta Middle School; and Charlotte Leiter, twelfth-grade student at Marietta High School. The art teachers from the schools selected the pieces that were displayed. The display of artwork shows the dedication to visual arts from MCS students around the district. A different set of schools will be selected each quarter, highlighting our students' many visual art skills.
Georgia High School Association 7A State Wrestling Champion
Congratulations to Marietta High School senior Malachi Sanders for being named the state champion in the 150 pound division in the Georgia High School Association 7A Wrestling competition. Malachi had a 33 – 4 season. He was the Cobb County Runner-Up, Hawks Christmas Invitational Champion, Hook ‘EM Holiday Clash Champion, Blue Devil Brawl Champion, Area Champion, and State Champion. Malachi is coached by Tommy Carthers.
Georgia Music Educators Association All-State Band, Chorus, and Orchestra
Congratulations to the MHS students selected for the Georgia Music Educators Association All-State Band, Chorus, and Orchestra. Each student auditions with other students from around the state for a panel of judges who selects students on merit and their excellence in musical knowledge, technique, and interpretation. Once selected, students will spend a weekend in Athens, GA, participating in rigorous rehearsals with professional musicians. The weekend ends with a concert at the Classic Center, highlighting all the students in the program.

Georgia Music Educators Association Sixth-Grade Statewide Honor Chorus
Congratulations to Marietta Sixth Grade Academy students Lorelei Chatham, Leona Magitt, Cora Picken, and Madeline Ralph for being selected for the Georgia Music Educators Association Sixth Grade State Honors Chorus. Students selected for this chorus must show excellence in musical knowledge, technique, and interpretation. After being selected, these students traveled to Athens, GA, on February 10-11, to participate in rigorous rehearsals with world-class clinicians. The weekend concluded with a performance at the Classic Center Stage with participants from across the state.
Marietta Sixth Grade Academy Girls' Basketball Team
Congratulations to the Marietta Sixth Grade Academy (MSGA) girls’ basketball team for their Cobb County Junior Basketball Conference (CCJBC) Championship win.
This is the first team to win the CCJBC championship. They had a 19 – 4 season, and three athletes were named to the CCJBC All-Tournament team: Zoë Williams, Taylor Shepherd, and Alana Dewitt, also named CCJBC All-Tournament MVP.

Marietta Middle School Seventh-Grade Girls' Basketball Team
Congratulations to the Marietta Middle School (MMS) seventh-grade girls’ basketball team for their Cobb County Junior Basketball Conference (CCJBC) Championship win.
This season they were undefeated and placed first in four other tournaments: the South Cobb Preseason Tourney, the Thanksgiving CCJBC Tournament, the CCJBC South Region, and the Next Generation Sports All-Star Weekend. Leah DeWitt was selected as the CCJBC Tournament MVP and All-Star team member. Tracy Wakefield and August Branch were chosen for the CCJBC All-Tournament team.
The weekend concluded with a performance at the Classic Center Stage with participants from across the state.
